General Education Support:

• For general academic support, please reach out to your child's teacher and/or school counselor. Additional contacts for Special Education and English Language Development (ELD) can be found below.

We are here to support you during this time!  Your student’s case manager will have daily office hours to support the specific needs of your child and will be reaching out to you weekly. The Vista Unified ELD Department is committed to the academic and linguistic progress of English Learners (ELs) in the Virtual School model. Our commitment is to provide resources for all ELs to access academic content and advance their language and grade level competencies. Counselors help students reach their educational and career goals by providing students with information and resources to help them succeed in reaching their individual goals.  They can assist in this process by helping students create an educational plan, understand their options, determine resources and, when necessary identify alternatives. 

Counselors work with parents, students and teachers to assist students in meeting their individual needs through individual meetings, group presentations. Counselors meet with students struggling in academics as well as students seeking academic guidance and planning throughout the school year.  Their duties include most aspects involved with academic planning, career guidance.

Although making an appointment is advised, students are always welcome to stop in to see their counselor during non-class time if they have questions or need assistance. 

If you have questions or concerns related to a student's academic performance, your counselor will do her best to assist you in meeting the needs of your student.

Establish good habits by completing homework assignments in a timely manner. Prepare yourself for the time commitment and discipline required for successful homework completion & it will pay off in the long run with higher grades and overall academic success.  Following are suggestions to help you and your child manage this area of responsibility. Parent's motivation and support are the keys to a child's success in school.

Follow a Schedule-- Be Independent and Responsible-- keep track of assignments and due dates in a planner or on a master calendar.

Claim "your spot" for completing work at home--Find a special place to do work during a specific time frame each day. Keep all your needed supplies there so you are ready to go (Chromebook, charger, pencil, paper, etc.). Notify others to be mindful that you are working when you are in your spot to minimize disruptions.

Wellness Corner-- During a scheduled break, check out the Wellness Corner (Class Code: fzyrmus)  with Mindful Mondays & Wellness Wednesdays to stay emotionally fit to manage you academic load. 

Cornell Notes -- A note taking skill that stimulates critical thinking skills and that help students remember what is said in class. 

Self-Advocate--reach out to teachers or counselors when you are struggling with an assignment or having difficulty.

Eat Healthy Meals and Snacks--A balanced diet of protein, fresh fruits, and vegetables.

Share Your Success--When you complete an academic challenge- share your accomplishment with peers and family!

Enjoy the Opportunity--The Middle School Years will pass quickly; enjoy yourself! Balance is the key!
